Come with me to Laguna Beach this October. Not just for the walks on the beach, but also for two painting workshops.
It doesn’t matter if you are at the very beginning of your art journey or a seasoned artist - we are going to make beautiful things together!
On Saturday, October 19,
After meeting and getting to know each other a little bit, we’ll familiarize ourselves with all the materials and get comfortable with mixing, consistency and technique. We will be using watercolours, gouache and acryla gouache, exploring how and why they work together.
A floral painting presentation will follow, after which we’ll sketch and paint together for a couple of hours. Help, advise and additional direction for all.
After a delicious lunch we will have another presentation. This one will include detailing, backgrounds and how to finish.
More painting together after that!
On Sunday, October 20, we’ll focus on mushrooms, whimsical characters, and exploring monochrome.
We’ll paint from nature and from within, and learn how to see what’s there and what could be there.
The first order of the day will be a Mushroom presentation. We’ll learn to sketch out an eye pleasing composition, choose colours that go well together and learn when to wait and when to let paints bleed one into another.
After sketching out our composition we’ll have a delicious lunch (chat and rest our minds and our eyes).
Second half of the day will start with painting mushrooms together. Help, advice and guidance from Helen.
Once the mushroom paintings come together, a monochrome presentation (Magical Blues) will follow. This would be about storytelling, personal style finding, and enjoying the freedom that comes with a limited pallet.
And, of course, we’ll paint together!
About the Space
Folklore Studio is a contemporary fine art gallery and community space in Laguna Beach, California. We aim to tell the stories of artists who create from a place of deep connection with the earth, using natural materials and practices that are ancient and reverent.
An exquisite lunch, coffee, tea, and snacks will be provided.
A list of recommended supplies will be sent following your registration.

*CANCELLATION policy
A lot of planning, expenses and time goes into producing the workshops. It’s a long walk up the steep hill in the best of times and everything is weighed, counted and taken into consideration to make this into the best experience possible. Therefore we do not offer credit, refunds or cancellations. However, you’re welcome to transfer your “workshop place” to a friend to go in your stead.
In case (a very unlikely case) the workshop is canceled - you will be notified immediately and a full refund will follow.
